RACHEL KIERS-Biography
Rachel E. Kiers is a photograpy artist who was born in Hamilton Ontario and moved to Victoria with her family. She has been residing in Victoria for over 25 years. Rachel graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor in Fine Arts majoring in Photography. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions at various art galleries in BC and her work has also been published in various publications and won awards for her work.
She worked for a famous Canadian Photographer, Ted Grant and learned about available light. Rachel was influenced by the emotion he showed in his photographs. Rachel likes to photograph without too much posing and not to manipulate the subject in any way. When she takes her photographs she tries to blend in with the background to become a quiet observer.
Rachel's camera has brought her to various places in the world where she had opportunities to photograph and meet thousands of people on a cruiseline. She has worked in different disciplines of photography from education, photojournalism, portrait and art photography.
Rachel is also influenced by her surroundings. Nature and people inspires her as it awakens the deep emotions within. In her latest work she finds designs and shapes that are overlooked or not readily seen in God's creation. In her work Rachel hopes to make the viewer question what they are viewing.
